IKEA meatball has always been a crowd favourite, but if you're searching for a delicious and sustainable alternative, look no further as Ikea has recently introduced its brand-new plant balls.

In line with the company's commitment to being people and planet-positive, Ikea Malaysia created this new dish with a lower impact on the environment.

Made with yellow pea protein, oats, potatoes, onions and apples, the plant balls consist of only four per cent of the meatballs' climate footprint, contributing to the Ikea ambition to become climate positive by 2030.

Ikea Malaysia country retail director Malcolm Pruys said the company hopes to motivate and inspire more Malaysians to take small steps towards leading a sustainable lifestyle.

"We can start from our eating habits, and with the new plant ball, we are proud to offer meat lovers a delicious, affordable, and more sustainable alternative — without compromising on the Ikea meatball experience that is loved by many," he said.

He added that their aim is to make 50 per cent of Ikea restaurants' main meals plant-based by 2025.

Adding to the Ikea plant-based food offerings, customers can now enjoy the plant balls with mashed potatoes, broccoli and lingonberry jam at the Ikea Swedish Restaurants across all Ikea stores in the country.
