The Singapore Cable Car Sky Network is one of the most scenic ways to experience Mount Faber.

SINGAPORE'S second highest hill, Mount Faber, is one of the island republic's best places to enjoy a view of the Sentosa coastline and the city's skyline.

Formerly known as Telok Blangah Hill, it was renamed in 1845 to honour Charles Edward Faber, who was responsible for clearing and building the road leading to the summit.

Surrounded by secondary rainforest, the hilltop destination is where locals — especially hikers, runners or those who enjoy a workout — usually go to soak in the natural surroundings.

There are walking trails to go to the peak. For example, the Marang trail, which is less than 1km, or begin the hike from Henderson Waves, which is about the same distance.

Faber Peak is also accessible by car or visitors can take a ride on a cable car.

THE OLDEST

Operated since 1974, the Singapore Cable Car Sky Network is one of the most scenic ways to experience Mount Faber.

It is also one of the first few attractions at the hilltop park managed by Mount Faber Leisure.

The cable car connects Mount Faber, HarbourFront and Sentosa Island in two lines.

The Mount Faber Line links the peak to HarbourFront and Sentosa, while the Sentosa Line takes you from Imbiah Lookout to either Merlion on the west or Siloso Point on the east.

It takes five minutes to walk from Sentosa Station on the Mount Faber line to Imbiah Lookout Station on the Sentosa Line.

Besides the breathtaking view, there are a few amazing restaurants on the peak, such as Dusk Restaurant and Bar, which offers the best sunset view setting, and the Arbora Hilltop Garden and Bistro, a casual dining place.

THE LATEST

Heading to Sentosa Island, there's a few more fun things to do and one of Mount Faber Leisure's latest attractions is the SkyHelix Sentosa, an open-air scenic ride that ascends in a gentle spiral motion.

This is another thrilling way to see the highest vantage points on Sentosa Island as the gondola gently ascends to a height of 79m above sea level.

The gondola also rotates 360° so you can get the best view from Sentosa to the Keppel Bay area and the Southern Islands.

I highly recommend the evening ride, when you can see the city lights, but the daytime ride will give you a breathtaking view of the seaside.

Almost like dining in the sky, the 10- minute ride lets you chill and drink while enjoying the view and listening to a brief talk about the destination.

THE UPGRADE

The Central Beach Bazaar is another edition located in the heart of Sentosa's beaches.

If you love street food and carnivals, check out the eye-catching row of Kombi vans, food trucks and colourful containers.

Making a comeback is the Sentosa Musical Fountain, which is augmented by the Sentosa SkyJet, the tallest fountain in Southeast Asia.

The five-minutes shows were established in the early 1980s and feature synchronised water jets dancing to an array of soundtracks.

Want to enjoy a longer showtime? The Wings of Time performance is a night show set against the open sea and featuring an adventure with Shahbaz, a prehistoric bird and his friends.

This award-winning show is available from Mondays to Sundays at 7.40pm and 8.40pm on Saturdays, Sundays, eve of public holidays and public holidays.
