DOLLY Dim Sum that is.
The reason for my excitement is because the spanking new KL East Mall, located at the busy Middle Ring Road 2, Dolly Dim Sum outlet and the mall is located just a stone's throw away from where we live.
Today, I am accompanied by my niece who is also a huge dim sum fan but hasn't been to any Dolly Dim Sum outlets unlike her aunt who has been to several.
From my dining experiences, it has been satisfactory.
THE KL EAST OUTLET
Five days prior to its official opening, the restaurant is full house. Outside, there are diners waiting to be served including us.
We are greeted by a staff who gives us a menu to browse, together with an order form.
The menu is well laid out with tasteful pictures. They are divided in categories like steamed, fried, cheong fan, baked and pan fried, congee, vegetables, rice and noodles, wok menu specials, desserts and Chinese teas for easy choosing.
We are spoilt for choice as there's a number of choices in each category.
The almost 10-minutes wait doesn't seem long at all as we are distracted by watching people skate on the ice skating rink located in front of the restaurant.
From where we're standing, we can see that the ambience of the restaurant is simple andpleasant.
THE ORDERS
From the steamed dim sum category, we order spicy Szechuan dumplings.
The steamed dumpling parcels have prawns and chicken filling drenched in a spicy and tangy sauce. It's delicious.
Our fried dim sum number, yam croquette does not disappoint either.
It is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with chicken, mushrooms and carrot filling. Five spice powder is present in the dough but not too overwhelming.
Thumbs up from my young lady companion.
She wanted to try the salted egg congee after seeing one of her colleagues ordered it online.
The bowl of congee comes with julienned young ginger, salted egg, white pepper powder, green onions and a touch of sesame oil.
It's a comforting dish suitable if you are feeling under the weather.
Our last dim sum order is prawn cheong fun: prawn pieces are blanketed in a thin delicate chee cheong fun.
It is served with a special chilli sambal. We can't fault it.
Luckily we didn't order any desserts even though the desserts look quite impressive. By the time, we get to the Royal fried rice, we are quite full.
The egg fried rice with prawns topped with ebiko (prawns roe) is quite exciting and fun especially when the ebiko burst in my mouth in every chew.
They are not stingy with the prawns and eggs either.
The only low for me is that the fried rice is a bit under seasoned.
We pack the rest of it home and there is no complaints from other members of the family.
