A WOMAN trying to make her mark in a male-dominated field will always face added challenges, but courage, tenacity and perseverance will bring her first to the finish line.

Denise Wong, head of cross border at Ninja Van Malaysia is one such woman, a trailblazer in the country's courier and logistics industry.

With over six years at Ninja Van Malaysia and a total of eight years of experience in the logistics and warehousing industry, Wong leads a dynamic team of 20 in the cross border unit and oversees a team of 50 in the fulfilment team at the organisation.

Wong, whose life motto is "continuous improvement", credits her mentor, Lin Zheng, CEO of Ninja Van Malaysia for empowering her to make decisions autonomously while sharing invaluable industry knowledge.

"My proudest achievement is having built a team centred around positive thinking and collaboration, which has been further enhanced by the various training and upskilling courses that the organisation provides. This approach not only prioritises individual growth but also drives the logistics industry forward through exceptional work," says Wong.

Her hope is to see more women stepping into leadership roles in the logistics sector.

"By opening up more opportunities for the skilled female workforce, we can truly accelerate progress and drive innovation in the courier and logistics sector."

As a working mum, she also understands all too well the juggling act that comes with balancing home and career.

But it helps when you're part of an organisation that aims to remain flexible and support the needs of parents, adds Wong.

"As a working mother, I have learned that the most valuable asset is the ability to deal with and adapt to changes."

WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

In celebration of International Women's Day, Lazada is shining the light on the incredible stories of women breaking barriers and making strides in their respective fields.

The e-commerce platform has unveiled a special photo series showcasing six remarkable women sellers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

This campaign celebrates the strength, resilience, and success of these inspiring women entrepreneurs on Lazada, whose diverse backgrounds and unique stories embody the spirit of determination and innovation, and empower other potential female entrepreneurs.

Among these remarkable stories is that of Teh Qiu Xuan, a young entrepreneur whose journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of dreams.

At just 16, Teh embarked on her entrepreneurial journey by co-founding KOMIC, an online store on Lazada, alongside her brother. Their venture specialises in licensed character merchandise from both local and international brands.

Motivated by her father's relentless work ethic and the desire to alleviate his financial burdens, she plunged into the dynamic realm of e-commerce swiftly, mastering the intricacies of running an online business and propelling KOMIC to rapid growth.

From its humble beginnings operated solely by Teh and her brother, the business now boasts a team of 15 staff across its main office, two warehouses as well as its Disney in-store pop-up in Penang, cementing her reputation as a formidable entrepreneur.

Through her mantra of "make dreams come to life", Teh inspires other women to dream big and aspire for greatness.

"With equal access to resources, opportunities and support systems, women can grow and achieve all they put their minds to. I'm passionate about inspiring women to dream big and aim for the stars."
