The first thing I notice when I lace up the new Adidas Supernova for my morning run is its insole, which is relatively hard compared to other running shoes that I have tried. But the toe box is generous so my feet don't feel stifled.

As I started running, I realise that it's the sole that helps me bounce back from the ground, to make the whole experience comfortable. I set out to run 5km, but ended up doing 7km since the shoe is light and the run is comfortable.

According to Adidas Running, the Supernova is designed for everyday and entry-level runners, who enjoy easy running, while providing comfort for their feet and mind.

The shoe is indeed all-round comfortable, from toe box to shoe tongue to shoe laces, which will help glue beginners to the sport.

ENJOY THE COMFORT

The shoe isn't ambitious in its aim. While a host of running shoes aim to make you run faster or longer, the Supernova just wants you to enjoy your comfort zone and be happy in it.

"Encouraging new runners to embrace their comfort zones, the shoe is designed to help them discover the joys of running and make it a long-term habit," the brand says in its press release.

This means runners of all abilities can benefit and improve their running performance even while staying in their comfort zone. After all, easy runs and recovery runs have their place in a comprehensive training log.

"Training within your comfort zone not only helps runners establish a sustainable habit, but it can also help them develop confidence in their running and selves,"

The outer sole provides great traction, making your run comfortable on all terrain.

ENTRY LEVEL

As a shoe for entry-level runners, the key features include comfort and energy – the precise balance of bounce and boost-- in the midsole, designed to deliver comfort and energy return with every stride.

It also has padded tongue and heel, and its construction helps deliver a comfortable feeling from the outset. It offers great traction with its direct injected thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) outsole so you get a comfortable grip, irrespective of terrain.

The only issue I have is its heel tab, which I find to be hard and unforgiving. If you wear the wrong socks, you might end up with blisters. So it's best to wear socks of medium thickness that go above your ankle.

SUSTAINABLE FOOTWEAR

The Adidas Supernova, available for men and women, also has sustainability etched in its construction. The shoe has a 12 per cent lower carbon footprint for the female version and 10 per cent lower carbon footprint for the male version compared to a previous model.

It's the first time that Adidas has created an entry level product with such a low carbon footprint at scale.

Adidas Running product manager Charlotte Heidmann says the newest iteration of the shoe is one that is focused in every part on high comfort and energy return to bring in new runners, and help existing runners progress within running.

"Plus, the whole lifecycle of the product has been considered to make the new Supernova a more carbon efficient shoe," she says.

The new Adidas Supernova comes in bliss blue and beam pink for women, and solar green for men. It retails RM449 and is available online and in-stores.
