KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Rozita Che Wan or Che Ta fully supports the government's plan to have age limits for social media account holders.

She said that this would prevent youngsters from visiting inappropriate sites in cyberspace.

In an interview with Berita Harian yesterday Rozita suggested that Instagram accounts should only be set up by secondary students aged 13 to 15 and above.

"These days we parents cannot control everything our children visit in cyberspace, especially when they have their own handphones.

"That is why age limits are a must," she said.

Rozita said that children who were still immature could send the wrong feedback to social media posts made by mature netizens and get themselves into trouble.

Rozita also said that parents should not allow their children to use handphones when they are still in primary school.

She added that although her 10-year-old daughter Aaisyah Dhia Rana has an Instagram account it is fully controlled by her husband Zain Saidin and herself.

"All of its posts are photos of herself and her parents as well as our meals and our cats. Even if she uploads her own photos she has to get our permission first and she can only upload them on weekends."
