KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer Ziana Zain says she is still far from being qualified to be honoured with the title Biduanita Negara.

The 55-year old singer, whose full name is Siti Roziana Zain, was quoted as saying this in a news report today.

Ziana added that the title was the highest honour befitting only the greatest female entertainers of this country, such as previous recipients like the late Puan Sri Saloma and the late Datuk Sharifah Aini.

Saloma was the first to be bestowed the title back in 1978, and Sharifah Aini received it in 2006.

"In my opinion, the third person to be accorded with this title should be someone who is multi talented. Someone who excelled not just as a singer, but also as an actress, as well as a TV host, in a career journey that has spanned for at least for five decades," she said.

Ziana shared this when asked by reporters during a press conference to announce her upcoming Ziana Zain 2024 concert in Petaling Jaya, Selangor last night.

The topic was hotly debated on social media recently after netizens, who had been impressed by Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza's Sebuah Epitome: Saya Siti Nurhaliza concert held at Axiata Arena last month, suggested that Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil should work towards bestowing the title to the Kuala Lipis-born artiste.
