KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actor and director Din Glamour, who has been facing financial problems due to being jobless, has sought out government assistance for affordable housing via the Public Housing Project (PPR).

The 63-year-old artiste, who was popular during the 1990s, said he needed assistance since he was no longer able to pay his monthly RM1,200 house rent.

"Life for me and my family has been very difficult after not getting any job offers for more than three years now.

"We depend a lot on the kindness of our families to carry on.

"The rent for the condo we live in is very expensive, RM1,200 a month with utilities amounting to RM200.

"Luckily the Zakat Centre helps pay half the house rent. But there was a time last year when the rent was more than six months in arrears.

"So I hope for assistance in getting a PPR house to reduce the burden," he said in a Berita Harian report yesterday.

Din, whose real name is Sallehuddin Ridzuan, was met during the 2024 Ziarah Seni Madani programme under the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) at Bukit Antarabangsa, here, yesterday.

The programme also saw Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, with Finas chairman Datuk Kamil Othman and Finas CEO Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Muttalib, visiting Din to deliver donations in the form of cash and food items.

Din said that he had tried to apply for a PPR house before but to no avail.

"I applied for the Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) and the Film Directors' Association of Malaysia (FDAM) quota twice, but nothing happened.

"I also tried the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to make a direct application but was told to wait my turn," he said.

Din has been living in the condominium with his wife, Noorin@Norain Md Saad, and his two children for the past six years.

Meanwhile, Din, who had been diagnosed with a lung problem, hopes that he will be given job opportunities.

"Many people think that I am still sick. But after undergoing surgery last year, my health has recovered by 99 per cent.

"My body and mind are still strong. However, I just need to undergo follow-up treatments at Ampang Hospital following the set appointments.

"I had also voiced this during the meeting with Fahmi and Finas and they promised to help me find a suitable job," he said.
