KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Fizo Omar said that he and his former wife, Mawar Karim, have settled their child custody issues amicably, and have vowed to be "good parents" to their daughter Wan Maryam.
"Thank God, all is settled. We discussed this diplomatically and when the court makes its decision we will accept it for the good of our daughter Maryam," said Fizo in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday.
The 38-year-old artiste from Kelantan said that he and Mawar would also discuss "changes to their plans" whenever they cropped up.
"Maryam is seven and she understands that her parents are no longer living under the same roof. She has accepted this, and is happy so long as we both spend quality time with her," said Fizo, who added that it was important for ex-spouses to think of their children's needs first.
The actor also said that it was "pointless" for divorced spouses to indulge in "prolonged squabbles" which go in and out of court.
"These will adversely affect the well-being of their children, and Mawar and I have always wanted to avoid it," he said.
Fizo added that once his daughter turned nine, she could decide on whether to live with him or with Mawar.
"I understand that my daughter needs her mother still. She is close to both of us, but I feel it is better that she spends more time with Mawar for now."
Fizo added that his divorce from Mawar had made him cherish every moment he spent with his daughter.
"Whenever it is time to be with me, I will make sure that I am not on a film or drama set, and I'd be 100 per cent with her."
Fizo and Mawar were married from 2013 to 2019.
The actor, whose real name is Wan Hafizol Wan Omar, is best known for starring in the films Jalang, Halim Munan, Isyarat Cinta and Sembunyi: Amukan Azazil, as well as the drama series Spa Q 2, Bio Nik, Surat Dari Langit Biru and Rindu Awak Separuh Nyawa.
