KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian International Film Festival (Miffest) is back for its seventh edition this year and is set to be improved with the addition of famed actor Zizan Razak on its advisory board.

The event, set to take place at The Exchange in TRX, here from July 21 to 28, also includes award-winning actor Bront Palarae as its ambassador and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) as its strategic partner.

Miffest president Joanne Goh said that she was grateful for their respective involvement which was an important mechanism to make the festival a bigger success this year.

"Zizan is an example of a great Malaysian artiste who has lots of experience in the entertainment industry.

"His expertise and advice on all things relating to the acting craft and the local industry are invaluable to us.

"Aside from Zizan, we also continue to feature Bront Palarae as an ambassador. Bront is also a great actor and has been a really big help to us all this while.

"We are thankful for all the assistance we've received in order to make this event a success.

"To top it off, we'll be having a strategic collaboration with Finas this year," she said when met at the recent Miffest press conference.

Goh added: "So, I believe that the upcoming Miffest will definitely be a better instalment as we double our efforts with strong support from all of the parties involved."

She said that more than 400 films from close to 50 countries around the world had been submitted to Miffest to undergo the screening process.

"After the first round of screening, we will shortlist 30 of the best films. Next, five appointed judges will then narrow it down to the final 10 films.

"The announcement of the nominated films will be made in June," she said of the festival which will be following the theme "Uncaged".

For local works, 10 films will be selected to be screened at the festival.

The Miffest Gala Night ceremony is scheduled to take place at Auditorium Seri Angkasa, Angkasapuri Kota Media, here on July 27.
