KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time, fast food restaurant chain McDonald's has come up with its very own Chinese language romantic comedy, specially for customers to get familiarised with its digital application.

The three-episode romantic comedy Love At McD debuts at 8pm tomorrow on the restaurant chain's Instagram account (@mcdonaldsmalaysia) and stars popular actors and actresses Emily Chan, Kryston Onn and Sandra Lim.

Each episode is two minutes.

McDonald's Malaysia marketing director Chin Mei Lee said that Chan, Onn and Lim played 20-somethings who enjoyed dining at the fast food chain and learnt to familiarise themselves with its McDonald's App when it came to ordering food and paying.

"Love At McD is our way of educating customers through feel good and entertaining stories that reflect reality. It is our creative way of engaging with customers and sharing with them how they can enjoy a good dining experience by using our app."

Chin added that the short romantic comedy reflected McDonald's brand philosophy of delivering "delicious feel-good moments" to Malaysians.

"Our McDonald's App is aimed at offering convenience to customers by simplifying the ordering process regardless of whether they are dining in, using Drive-Thru, or enjoying meals at home."

Chan, 32, said that it was the trio's first collaboration in an online drama series, and filming took two days at various McDonald's outlets in the Klang Valley earlier this month.

"I'm delighted to be part of this drama as I grew up with McDonald's, meeting up with school mates at the Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin restaurant after school and on weekends," she said, adding that her favourite McDonald's recipe was spicy fried chicken.

Onn, 23, said: "McDonald's always makes my day, having a treat at my neighbourhood McDonald's outlet when I was a kid was something I always looked forward to during weekends."

Lim, 23, said: "What I like about this drama is, my character is the 'jealous girlfriend'. It is a good role because I am normally cast as the sweet girl. Nevertheless there are no heroes and villains here, it is a love triangle but all ends well."

Chin said that Love At McD built on the success of the recent six-episode mini drama series Rugi Tau Tak Pakai App McD, which was also produced by the fast food chain for customers six months ago.

Chin, Chan, Onn and Lim launched the drama series at McDonald's Pantai Sentral Park in Pantai Dalam here today.

Launched in April 2018, the McDonald's App has become one of the top food and drink applications in Malaysia and has garnered 14 million downloads with 1.4 million active users.
