KUALA LUMPUR: Evergreen entertainer Datuk Zainalabidin Mohamad believes that concerts should be allowed to go on as usual without being coerced by some sectors to be postponed owing to the violence in Gaza.

"We should continue with our lives, especially since we are a nation of many races, peoples and religions.

"Yes, we should show our solidarity with the Palestinian people. We must continue to pray for them.

"We should also organise more events like concerts to collect donations to be given to them.

"Send them food, supplies, medicine and what they need. Helping them this way is much better than stopping concerts or music events," he said when met at the launch for a music event in a hotel, here today.

The 64-year-old singer, known for hit songs such as Hijau and Ikhlas Tapi Jauh, was responding to a question by the media on netizens calling for concerts to be cancelled.

"I feel those who have the authority to decide on whether concerts can carry on or not should just let them go on," he said.

The longstanding artiste will be staging an edutainment concert, titled Sound Spirit – Zainalabidin: The Legacy of Sound, at The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre on Jan 20.

The event, tailored for students especially those enrolled in music courses, will feature Zainalabidin as the primary speaker, sharing his experience alongside music experts Michael Veerapen, Sunil Kumar and Steve Thornton.

There will also be performances by Pija Yasin and One Juicy.
