KUALA LUMPUR: Actor, singer, radio announcer and filmmaker Asmawi Ani or Mawi, 42, plans to train young Johoreans who are interested in filmmaking and acting.

Mawi, who was appointed the deputy chief of the film and documentary bureau of the Johor Bumiputera Business And Entrepreneur Development Council last Friday, said that he aimed to "bring up" promising new film, documentary and drama producers and directors by sharing his experience with them via workshops.

"As one who has been acting, producing and directing for the last 18 years, I have gathered lots of useful experience to share with them. My aim is to help discover Johor's future producers, directors and actors and help the Malaysian film and television industry grow," he said in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday.

Mawi will work closely with his bureau chief, actress and television host Betty Banafe who was also appointed by the council last Friday.

Mawi is currently filming a comedy-drama Zim Zim Ala Kazim which will be ready next month and screened next year.

"At first I wanted to have it on Astro First, but some of my friends and mentors in the entertainment industry advised me to have it screened in cinemas. I am currently shooting additional scenes and the film is 30 per cent complete," he said.

Mawi's new film stars Datuk Mohd Kazim Elias, Rosnah Johari, Ryan Bakery and himself.
