KUALA LUMPUR: After helping Slam lead singer Zamani Ibrahim raise funds for scoliosis surgery last year, television host Datuk Aznil Nawawi is now helping cancer-stricken Ibnor Riza who is undergoing chemotherapy but still has to sing to meet his medical expenses.

In a recent Instagram video, Aznil, 60, said that he had recently met Ibnor. The 62-year-old singer, who was famous in the 1980s, told Aznil that he had to sell three of his cars to meet his medical expenses.

"He has not had singing offers since November, but since his voice is still good he is determined to keep working to survive," said Aznil.

"However, I doubt he will get many invites to sing and the payment might not be enough to fund his treatment."

Aznil said that he was deeply moved by Ibnor's plight as the veteran singer was an old friend and a "jolly good fellow".

"We can all pray for him but it is much better to lend him a hand. Even if he doesn't expect our help, as a fan and friend I have opened an account under my name for all of us to help him," said Aznil.

Last year, Aznil successfully raised RM100,000 for Zamani's back surgery on Nov 7.
