KUALA LUMPUR: "No husband in this world can accept his wife cheating on him with another man."
This is what actor and director Syamsul Yusof said with regards to him filing an application for 'nusyuz' against his wife Puteri Sarah Liyana at the Gombak Timur Lower Syariah Court in Selangor, today.
The 39-year-old artiste was represented by syarie lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais during the proceeding which took place at 3.10pm.
Syamsul told the media that his action was not an act of revenge but an attempt to save their marriage.
"As a husband, I had kept things inside. I did not want to talk about this because I felt embarrassed.
"I know that Puteri Sarah is in contact with her former lover.
"He is not an actor, just a regular person when he was studying in college. So, I don't want people to misunderstand.
"This thing cropped up not because I want to thrash Puteri Sarah, but as long as I keep quiet, things will get worse," he said in a Berita Harian Online report today.
Syamsul added that he did not want to take action but was forced to after allegations were made by Puteri Sarah.
"All this while, I have kept mum about what has happened in my family life. It's just not nice to air my dirty laundry in public.
"People know that I have kept quiet despite whatever Puteri Sarah has uploaded on her Instagram.
"But people don't know what has really happened between Puteri Sarah and I. After only hearing from one side, they are quick to judge and I just don't want to entertain it.
"I was quiet because Puteri Sarah is the mother of my two kids. However, I was taken aback by her allegation that I had hit her," he said.
The Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan director added that his parents were also unaware of the real situation.
"My parents had also reprimanded me, so the time has come. It is not my intention to exact revenge or to fight with Puteri Sarah," he said.
His lawyer Azmi explained that Puteri Sarah was named in the application for 'nusyuz' due to several reasons and the mention for the case has been set for April 6.
"Nusyuz relates to a disobedient and rebellious wife. So Syamsul has filed an application for nusyuz due to several reasons that are stated in the application.
"These include Puteri Sarah, having left their home since October 2020, is still in contact with her former lover, reluctant to comply with the notice of nusyuz and has slandered Syamsul by alleging that he hit her and doesn't provide financial support," he said.
