KUALA LUMPUR: The screening of local psycho-thriller Eva: Take Me As I Am has apparently been cancelled in many cinemas across Malaysia after just four days since its premiere on Jan 26.

Actor Shamsul Danish who stars in the movie said that he was disappointed as four days of screenings was too short of a time.

"We're very upset after being informed by the cinemas that the movie would be cancelled in most of the branches across the country on Jan 30.

"What impact can we make with just four days of screenings? The public who would just be making their way to the cinemas would not get a chance to see it," he said in a recent news report.

The 16-year-old artiste added that it was also disheartening to know that the movie was not screened in potential crowd-drawing areas which included Seremban and a popular cinema in Sunway, Petaling Jaya.

Shamsul explained that it was also disappointing that the work was not appreciated even though fans were providing positive feedback and the cast were also currently busy promoting the movie.

"Audiences were just beginning to provide good responses for this movie and we are in the midst of promoting Eva which is a work that aims to educate through entertainment.

"Then there's the issue of cinemas not giving us screening locations that have lots of potential for viewing traffic. We're not asking for much but just for giving Eva a sensible amount of time for screenings.

"I have also emailed the private secretary to the Communication and Digital Minister on this matter and hope that there will be a response and action taken. Please just give us some time," he said.

Eva: Take Me As I Am focuses on the tragic story of the titular character who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder.

It follows her struggle to contend with three alter egos, namely Eva, Amy and Mike, who are trapped in her body.

Eva's split personality condition developed over the years as a result of a coping mechanism in dealing with a terrible childhood trauma.

Aside from Shamsul, who plays Eva's son, the movie also stars Nadia Aqilah, Nadia Brian, Datuk Jalaludin Hassan, Tony Eusoff, Hasnol Rahmat, Esma Daniel and Norman Hakim.
