KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian actor and singer Alvin Chong garnered the Best Supporting Male Performance – Digital trophy at the recent 27th Asian Television Awards for his role as Ashraff in the drama series She Was Pretty.

The prestigious regional awards ceremony was held live in Manila in the Philippines on Dec 1.

"I was pretty anxious when I took up the offer for She Was Pretty. The role was different from others that I had taken before," he said in a statement today.

The drama series which is streaming on the online platform Viu is a Malay adaptation of the popular South Korean series of the same name.

Chong added: "And I felt pressured to deliver (Korean actor) Choi Si Won's essence in the role because he did a really good job and people like this role."

"Also, I have never had any luck in any previous nominations. Thank you so much ATA for the recognition, Viu and Independent Pictures for believing in me," he said.

Directed by Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim, the series also stars an ensemble cast that includes Aiman Hakim Ridza, Diana Danielle and Daniella Sya.

Chong beat Pertaruhan The Series actor Giulio Parengkuan from Indonesia and fellow Malaysian artiste Izzue Islam who starred in the drama Ganjil for the award.

The Asian Television Awards recognises the excellent work and talents from the TV world in the Asia region and is held annually.
