KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Zamani Ibrahim is preparing himself both physically and mentally for the procedure to treat scoliosis.

In a news report yesterday, the 51-year-old artiste revealed that he was scheduled to go under the knife at a private medical centre in Cheras on Nov 7.

Zamani said that being mentally ready was most important for anyone going for a major surgery and that it was also normal for anyone to be a little worried.

"Of course, I'm feeling a little anxious. Not because I'm afraid of any untoward incident but due to the fact that this would be my first major operation," said Zamani, who last had a procedure to remove gallstones about 20 years ago.

The singer added that he would be put under general anesthesia for the procedure, which is expected to take about two and a half hours.

"To help me fully recover, the doctors had also advised me to go on a diet and consume various vitamins as supplements," explained Zamani, who added that he would need to rest for three months before resuming work.

He added: "They said I could recuperate in two to six weeks, depending on my immune system. During this period, I'll also need to go for follow-up treatments and physiotherapy sessions."
