KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian filmmaker Ho Yuhang's action movie from 2017 titled Mrs K is set to be remade by the producers of current Hollywood hit Bullet Train.
Deadline recently reported that Universal and 87 North have selected American author Mishna Wolff as screenwriter with 87 North's David Leitch and Kelly McCormick serving as producers.
Ho, Lorna Tee and Conor Zorn are expected to be the new movie's executive producers.
"It's been in the works for three years, I'm really excited that the news is finally out.
"After seeing the film, 87 North came prepared and really wanted to collaborate with us on the new adaptation.
"Thankfully Universal liked the story and the decision was made very quickly," said Ho in a Malay Mail report yesterday.
Ho added that Wolff was the best person to take on the job after he had met with many other screenwriters.
"Mishna understood the spirit of the original film, that's why we chose her.
"Her creative energy was infectious and she also liked the underappreciated western films that inspired Mrs K," he said.
Ho's Mrs K, which stars Kara Wai as the titular character, focusses on a mother with a dark past who has to sacrifice everything for her husband and daughter after her previous enemies come back to hunt her.
The well-received 2017 action movie, that also features Hong Kong star Simon Yam and Malaysian actor Faizal Hussein, received a best action choreography nomination at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards.
Known for producing movies from the action genre, 87 North's Bullet Train has been reported to be the No. 1 film in Hollywood for over two weeks, grossing over RM509 million worldwide.
