KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of actor Ako Mustapha said that her quick action in getting him to hospital on Aug 4 saved his life.

Kartina Shuaib told Harian Metro Online yesterday that Ako, 51, was "a lot better now" after spending a week in Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

"Thank God, Ako is back to normal. He can talk, walk, eat and drink as before," said Kartina, who also thanked the doctors for swiftly treating her husband upon admission.

Ako was discharged from HKL yesterday.

Kartina said that doctors told her that her "quick action" in calling an ambulance when Ako vomited and almost fainted at home on Aug 4 "saved him in the nick of time".

"At first the medical team didn't know what he was suffering from.

"But after a blood test they found that his blood had become toxic and his oxygen level had fallen to 40 per cent.

"This severely affected his nervous system and muscles," said Kartina, thanking friends and fans for their constant prayers.

It is learnt that Ako, whose best known films include Gangster and Buli Balik, had completed his diabetes medicines on Aug 4 and did not have time to replenish them.
