KUALA LUMPUR: International actress Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is set to receive a Doctorate of Fine Arts from the American Film Institute (AFI) for her contributions of distinction to the art of the moving image.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 60-year-old Ipoh-born artiste will be conferred the honour during the AFI Conservatory's commencement ceremony celebrating the Class of 2022 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles in the USA on Saturday.

The ceremony will also see AFI Trustee Emeritus Lawrence Herbert receiving a Doctorate of Communication Arts.

AFI's president and CEO, Bob Gazzale, said: "Michelle Yeoh and Lawrence Herbert have inspired the world with their remarkable talents."

"Though both of these trailblazers have proven impact in vastly different ways, it is their shared dedication to the art of the moving image that provides this proud moment for AFI to shine a proper light upon their gifts given us," he added.

Yeoh is currently generating Oscar buzz for her lead role in the mind-bending movie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, which is likely to see the actress receiving many other accolades in the coming months.

The distinguished actress has over 70 screen credits that include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha, Crazy Rich Asians, Tomorrow Never Dies, Sunshine, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings.

Past recipients of AFI honorary degrees include Robert Altman, Angela Bassett, Kathryn Bigelow, Clint Eastwood, Jodie Foster, Helen Mirren, Quentin Tarantino, John Williams and many more.
