KUALA LUMPUR: Having fitted the contraceptive implant for about two months, actress Wawa Zainal had it removed after she could not cope with its side effects which included prolonged menstruation.

The 30-year-old artiste said she had the implant fitted after giving birth to her fourth child, Muhammad Fahri, last November.

"It was originally part of our family planning. However, since it caused me to have prolonged menstruation, I decided to remove it.

"My menstruation did not stop for two months. And since Ramadan is just around the corner, I don't want this problem to become a hindrance for me to observe the holy month," she said in a news report yesterday.

Wawa added that although doctors had advised her to wait for another three months, she could no longer bear with the side effects.

Wawa who is married to fellow actor Aeril Zafrel in 2013, have three other children — Ahmad Fakhruddin Attar, 8; Hayla Maghfiratul Adzkiyaa, 6; and Ayya Sofya, 2.

"As for family planning, looks like we have to resort to other alternatives. And if child No.5 comes along soon, who are we to say no," she said.
