KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran Hong Kong actress and beauty queen Michelle Reis recently overcame a life-threatening illness, and spent 48 hours in the intensive care unit of a hospital.

Entertainment portal AsiaOne reported today that the 51-year-old star shared two photos from her hospital bed last Saturday and wrote on Instagram that she had "narrowly escaped death".

She said: "In the early hours of last Tuesday, I had difficulties breathing and was unable to keep my balance.

"After calling the doctor, I was immediately whisked to hospital, where he told me that the world would lose me if I had delayed treatment."

Reis, who rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, did not divulge what ailment she suffered from, but mentioned that her blood pressure had plunged, which affected her vital organs.

"One organ affects another organ. Being alive is a victory," she said, thanking Netizens for their concern and advising them to take care of their health.

Reis, who has been married to businessman Julian Hui since 2008, was crowned Miss Hong Kong and Miss Chinese International in 1988.

She has starred in more than 30 films and television dramas, alongside popular actors Andy Lau, Leon Lai and Stephew Chow among others.
