KUALA LUMPUR: South Korean actor Oh Young-Soo's win at the recent Golden Globe Awards 2022 is proof that talent alone brings one success in acting, said veteran actress Fauziah "Ogy" Ahmad Daud.

Congratulating the 79-year-old star of Squid Game, Ogy said that his victory at the Golden Globes proved that actors and actresses did not need a strong following on social media to win major awards.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Ogy said: "This is a really good actor. He has bagged his first major award, Best Supporting Actor in the Golden Globes 2022.

"Best of all, he did not need to have millions of followers on social media."

Ogy added: "What makes a great actor is talent, hard work and understanding one's role in a film. These qualities win the hearts of the awards' jury. At the end of the day, only knowledge, experience, skills and talent are the things that matter."

Netizens, including award-winning actress Nad Zainal, agreed with Ogy.

Nad said: "Yes, congratulations Mr Oh. Talent alone matters!"

Nik said: "This is the trouble with us, we go for looks and popularity. What happened to talent and dedication?"

Azhar said: "Sigh! I don't think we are ever going to win a Golden Globe. We are going backwards if we don't re-emphasise talent."

Oh won Best Supporting Actor (Television) at the 79th Golden Globes yesterday.

He starred as Oh Il-Nam or Player 001, a Squid Game participant who wanted to take up a final challenge before his death.

This year's Golden Globes was held without attendees, hosts or livestreams. Instead the ceremony announced its winners via social media.
