KUALA LUMPUR: Acclaimed fashion designer Hatta Dolmat has been honoured by the Malaysia Book Of Records (MBOR) as the creator of the country's first sustainable fashion collection.

Yesterday, MBOR honoured Hatta for coming up with his collection which comprises bags and accessories made from over 200 recycled plastic bottles.

A delighted Hatta announced the good news in an Instagram post today. He said: "Thank you so much MBOR. I couldn't ask for more. I ain't doing this for recognition, but for the sake of our responsibility to the environment. Happy Earth Day!"

Hatta added that it was his first collection made from recycled materials and part of his 2020 portfolio.

"I created this collection to fulfil my clients' needs for durable products that match their active lifestyles.

"All these years I've conducted extensive research into the value, qualities, motifs and identity of products, and this made me better understand what my clients wanted.

"This resulted in the creation of sustainable bags and accessories which are of good quality yet affordable," said Hatta.

Several artistes congratulated Hatta on his MBOR achievement, and they included Nourul Wahab, Yuna, Wak Doyok and Cik Manggis of De Fam.

Hatta, 39, hails from Melaka and studied fashion at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam.

Besides designing for the stars, he is also active in environmental awareness campaigns organised by the non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam (Peka).

In 2017, he was awareded the UiTM Creative Industry Icon Award.
