KUALA LUMPUR: Hip-hop legend Dr Dre has been hospitalised and is in the intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering a brain aneurysm on Jan 4.

E! News reported today that Dr Dre took to Instagram yesterday, to tell his fans that he was "doing great and getting excellent care" from his doctors.

"Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes," he said.

"I'm doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One love!"

The 55-year-old hip-hop maestro is recuperating at Cedars Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles.

A number of the star's famous collaborators shared their support on social media.

"Send your love and prayers to Dr Dre," Ice Cube tweeted.

"Still keep the family in your prayers."

Snoop Dogg tweeted: "Get well Dr Dre. We need you."

Missy Elliott tweeted: "Prayers for Dr Dre and his family for healing and strength."

Dr Dre is currently undergoing divorce proceedings with his wife of 24 years Nicole Young. She filed for divorce in July last year, citing irreconcilable differences. They have two children.

Dr Dre rose to prominence in the late 1980s as member of the hip-hop group N.W.A.

He has won six Grammy Awards and worked with hip-hop stars as Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Mary J. Blige and Eminem.
