KUALA LUMPUR: The director of the hit film Tragedi Oktober, Yusof Kelana, 66, who is suffering from stage 4 skin cancer is currently in critical condition at the National Cancer Institute in Putrajaya.

His daughter, Nur Yusnani Omar, said that the cancer cells had already spread to his brain and had affected the veteran filmmaker and producer's memory.

"My father had only gone for two rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy but the two treatments had to be stopped due to his weakened state. This was because the cancer cells had spread to his brain.

"He is conscious but very weak. His memory has also been affected, sometimes he can remember us and at other times he can't. So we have to talk to him frequently in order to help him remember things.

"Because he is in a severely weakened state, the doctor had to stop all chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. My father is allowed to be released tomorrow and can only undergo palliative care at home.

"No visitors are allowed at the moment, only my mother who is taking care of him," she said in a news report today.

Prior to this, Yusof was diagnosed with cancer last July after initially thinking that a cut on his foot was just an ordinary injury.

After experiencing chest pains and collapsing at home, the director of Bahaya Cinta and Bidong: The Boat People was rushed to the hospital.

His children had been asking him to see a doctor several times before that.

Because he had no history of diabetes, the medical personnel carried out a Computed Tomography or CT Scan test on him and discovered that he had stage 4 cancer cells.

He was initially supposed to undergo five rounds of chemotherapy.
