KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s No.1 singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza gave birth to a baby girl at a medical centre here at about 8.17am today.

It is understood that Siti gave birth to the baby, who weighs 3.55kg, by caesarean section.

Her manager Rozi Abdul Razak in a statement said both Siti and her newborn baby are in good health.

She, however, said only her closest family members are allowed to visit.

The singer's husband, Datuk Seri Khalid Mohamad Jiwa said he was grateful for his daughter's birth.

"What is important for me is that the childbirth went smoothly, and that both my wife and child are healthy," he said in a statement on Facebook.

He said, most importantly, the delivery went on smoothly.

Rozi also added in the statement that both Siti and her husband are thankful to their families, friends, fans and the media for their prayers and support from the early stages of the pregnancy up to the delivery.

She said that the couple picked today or 1 Rejab for the birth of their child as it coincided with the day and date that Prophet Muhammad was born on.

"For now Siti wants to be given space to rest and focus on the early days of motherhood. On the child’s appearance and name, Siti and Khalid have asked for some time before making an announcement,” she added.

The couple tied the knot in August 2006.
