Work from home may not be all rosy — especially for a mother — but one thing is certain, good coffee is just a few steps away, thanks to my long-serving home Nespresso machine. I love a good cup of espresso in the morning and by 8am, I would have had my first shot.

As the workforce returns to the office, both employers and business owners are rethinking about amenities that they can provide to employees and customers. The global population has become so used to home comfort that it's a nice touch to provide that comfort — including a good cuppa — in an out-of-home setting.

Nespresso Malaysia, through its Nespresso Professional arm, hopes to help employers and business owners give consumers good quality coffee without the need of a human barista.

Business executive officer Floriane Novello says the range provides a quality coffee experience for professionals in offices, hotels, work spaces and restaurants.

"Our latest machine – Nespresso Momento – is an innovative coffee machine designed to deliver authentic, sustainable and high-quality coffee that also offers safe coffee moments with touchless features, a much sought-after feature today, amid a global pandemic."

QUALITY COFFEE

Novello says at work, coffee drinkers want to experience barista-quality coffee, so the brand's machine and coffee capsules are designed to deliver that experience in every cup, while keeping the process simple and convenient.

"The pandemic has changed how we do things in our daily lives, including how we work and interact with each other. Safety and hygiene have become top priorities.

"The machine offers touchless features, including a remote-control solution, automatic brewing, and lock-screen option, enabling professionals to maintain social interactions around a quality cup of coffee in a safer way.

"As hygiene becomes a priority, one of the main advantages of the machine is that each user can disinfect the touchscreen before interacting with it," she says.

W Kuala Lumpur general manager Christian Metzner says the partnership with Nespresso Professional is also in line with the hotel's Commitment to Clean protocol, in food safety and contactless service.

"With just a few touches on their own smartphones, guests can enjoy a consistently good cup of coffee."

W Kuala Lumpur is one of Nespresso's partner hotels in the city. Metzner says guests now have an expectation on hygiene when visiting places outside their homes.

"We need to meet these expectations by providing the right tools and services to cater to their needs. By having a machine like the Nespresso Momento in our hotel, guests can still enjoy their time with us during their coffee moments."

CHANGING CONSUMPTION

Novello says coffee consumption in the hospitality sector and office environment has changed when employers asked their employees to work from home.

"Employee and guests' wellbeing becomes a priority for employers, so we are innovating to create new solutions that allow our out-of-home partners to offer coffee drinkers a safe and rewarding experience."

The pandemic, she adds, also sees rising awareness on sustainable coffee drinking. "People are becoming more aware of the need to protect the environment and looking for brands that contribute to that."

Metzner says the hotel understands its responsibility and the importance to do good for the community, environment and people in the business.

"That is the reason we are happy to collaborate with like-minded partners who share our commitment for sustainability."
