SELF-CARE means different things to different people, but if getting a facial or massage, or some treatment for the body is up your self-care alley, then a centre in The Gardens Mall may be worth a visit.

It's pink -- too pink for my liking, in fact, with pastel coloured-flowers dotting the space. But it's quiet and serene, even when it's located in a bustling shopping centre.

Beauty & Co is the first beauty co-working space in Malaysia that provides wide-ranging procedures and treatments.

This means aestheticians and beauticians can use this platform to practise their skills, without having to purchase expensive machines or be attached to a specific company.

The company was founded in 2018 by Yap Yann Fang, who has over 20 years of experience in the beauty and aesthetics industry.

YapYann Fang says beauticians and small companies can save on rental with this concept.

On the website, it states that Yap has "founded four beauty brands and more than 30 beauty parlors across Malaysia."

Yap says she wants Beauty & Co to be a platform to encourage self-love. "Beyond being about aesthetics, self-care promotes confidence and results in empowerment which is the core of this platform and what we aim to drive.

"We want every single customer to walk out not just looking their best, but also feeling their best," she says.

ENHANCING THE INDUSTRY

Yap says she also wants to enhance the integrity of the beauty industry.

"Every beautician under Beauty & Co will be able to access the latest, state-of-the-art technological innovations and a comfortable and aesthetically-pleasing environment for both themselves and their customers."

She says training and proper technical education will be provided to ensure not only the proper usage of the high-tech equipment, but to also ensure that customers receive treatments from certified and qualified beauticians.

"Theory training, practical training and a certification of training completion are provided at the end of every beautician training programme," she says.

Yap says the beauty industry is evolving, which can sometimes results in intense rivalry.

"With a co-working space, we hope to overcome this and instead promote a sustainable ecosystem for all, where budding businesses are able to thrive alongside established ones as they share access to the latest technology.

"Aside from being able to save on cost and rental, I wanted these beauticians to have a safe community and space to work, providing customers with the best treatment and service. Our space was especially renovated to provide comfort and relaxation for both customers and beauticians," she says.

Beauty & Co is big on wellness, so there are services for facials, massage, hair removal as well as other non-invasive aesthetics solutions.
