A homegrown jewellery label collaborates with an ingenue to celebrate self-love and personal growth, writes Aznim Ruhana Md Yusup.

JEWELLERY label Wanderlust + Co has released a capsule collection with actress and singer-songwriter Daiyan Trisha, available exclusively on fashion portal Zalora. Called Bloom Within, the six-piece collection drew its inspiration from Daiyan’s book of poetry called Tulisan by Daiyan Trisha.

It comprises a necklace, anklet, two pairs of earrings, bracelet and a ring. The overall aesthetic is 1990s minimalist, with the daisy being a key motif. The gold hue is understated while each piece is small and delicate but noteworthy in its own way.

Wanderlust + Co Founder and managing director Jenn Low says it was an honour to work with Daiyan and described her as a genuine creative soul. Meanwhile, Daiyan credited Low for creating a meaningful collection that has a mindful message for her audience.

Here, the duo talk more about their friendship and the collection.

WHEN DID THE TWO OF YOU MEET?

Jenn Low:

We met for the first time at Wanderlust + Co’s pop up store event at 1Utama last September. Shortly after that, we had another pop up event in Singapore and we hosted Daiyan there.

Daiyan truly represents the Wanderlust girl — she’s fearless, a dreamer and unafraid to make mistakes. She picks herself up every time and brings fresh energy to everything that she does. That’s what attracted me to Daiyan and led to the birth of this capsule collection.

Daiyan Trisha:

I’ve always been a fan of the brand and I’d always wanted to meet Jenn. When I did, I immediately loved her energy. She’s kind and shares everything that she knows.

The trip to Singapore was for the Make It Yours collection where you can customise the pieces. I had a necklace with a bee pendant and a gemstone that said Intuition. I was in a spiritual place at the time, so that really resonated with me.

HOW DID BLOOM WITHIN COME ABOUT?

Low:

It was inspired by Daiyan’s writing. There was one poem of hers which goes, “Let it be, just grow beautifully”. This is evident in the collection, such as the necklace with miniature letters that spell out L.O. V. E. but with the O replaced with a daisy.

The anklet is a first — we’ve never released an anklet before. The pieces are designed to be subtle and worn every day.

Daiyan:

It’s when you don’t want to be loud and have your jewellery overwhelm you. I can wear all the pieces from Bloom Within at once but still look simple yet put together.

I happen to wear Wanderlust every day. I have a song called I Wanna See You and in the video, which we shot in Kuala Lumpur and New York, I wore Wanderlust jewellery. It wasn’t sponsored but it just fit with what we were doing.

THE COLLECTION IS INSPIRED BY THE 1990s. WHAT IMAGE DO YOU FIND ICONIC OF THAT DECADE?

Low:

When I think of the ‘90s, I think of Drew Barrymore with her cherub baby face and crop haircut with daisies in her hair, being really carefree.

I grew up in the ‘90s and there’s something special about that time before Instagram and over-edited photos on social media.

Daiyan:

There’s not much I can tell you because I was born in 1993 and my memory of the ‘90s were mostly cartoons! But I’ve watched Clueless and I think that’s an iconic ‘90s movie.
