KUALA LUMPUR: Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) has donated 10 smart screens and 10 units of the latest connectivity device, WiFi AX3 routers to the Malay College Kuala Kangsar Old Boys Association (MCOBA) for the use of Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) students.

"On behalf of the MCKK Parent-Teacher Association, I would like to thank Huawei Malaysia for this generous donation. We will ensure that the equipment is fully utilised and that the students of MCKK make use of it for their studies as well as to upgrade their digital skills," said MCKK Parent-Teacher Association's chairman, Hamdi Abdullah at a handover event held here.

This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Huawei Malaysia is geared towards enhancing digital learning in schools as Malaysia inches towards its recovery phase.

This initiative will support students in their learning activities as well as in providing them with additional learning resources for revision.

"We value collaboration, and work with governments, customers, education institutions and NGOs for digital inclusivity - from cultivating ICT skills to developing the digital economy. We hope our contribution to one of the premier education institutions in Malaysia, the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, will assist students with the continuity of their education, which has been disrupted due to the pandemic.

"A stable, high-speed network connection is essential in ensuring this so that both online and offline learners are offered the same rich learning experience. Reliable hardware such as our Huawei Wi-Fi AX3, is crucial in supporting hybrid learning.

"We believe this is a step towards harnessing future digital talents, equipped with skills and most importantly, passion about technology," said Huawei Malaysia's chief executive officer, Michael Yuan.

With the reopening of schools nationwide and the challenges of hybrid learning, Huawei Malaysia, together with MCOBA, are working together to ensure that the continuity of education for students remains unaffected.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz also attended the event virtually. In his speech he said: "This country is emphasising on the development of the digital economy as one of the largest contributors to our gross domestic product (GDP). Therefore, we are responsible for developing the digital talents and skills of our people and this should begin from the school benches. Centres of academic excellence such as MCKK must continue to play a role in training and producing generations of technological excellence to chart the future of the country".

"On this occasion, I would like to express my congratulations and thanks to Huawei Malaysia for successfully implementing this digital initiative at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar. During the 20 years that Huawei has established itself in Malaysia, we have witnessed various telecommunications projects that have been developed as a result of the company's joint ventures with government agencies and the local private sector, and now we are seeing their contribution to the education sector," added Zafrul.

Huawei Malaysia has also worked with state governments and government agencies to ensure the continuity of teaching and learning amidst dealing with the pandemic through a variety of channels including distributing digital devices directly to underprivileged students.
