KUALA LUMPUR: It looks like Huawei is saying goodbye to the notch, dewdrop and punch-hole design on its phones following a teaser video today on its official Facebook page.

The Chinese phone maker is expected to introduce a new product, the Y series family in Malaysia soon. The teaser video that was shared on the brand’s Facebook HuaweiMobileMY showed some objects rising; which mimic the action of a pop-up camera. This is in line with company's recent smartphone camera technology direction. At the end frame of the teaser video, one can get a glimpse of a pop-up camera rising before the brand’s official logo appears.

Smartphone display is undergoing rapid changes, from notch to dewdrop design, followed by the punch-hole style, like the one on the Huawei nova 4. The objective is to satisfy consumers’ need for a bigger and unobstructed display.

The pop-up camera design is also expected to become a trend and popular among consumers.

Having a pop-up camera design will enable manufacturers to maximise the display area of smartphones without sacrificing the selfie camera for social media purposes.
