KUALA LUMPUR: Most pick-up truck users do not always need the four-wheel drive 4X4 capability, hence Isuzu Malaysia decided to introduce the D-Max Auto Plus 4X 1.9L.

The rear-wheel drive version is the latest addition to the Isuzu D-Max range here in Malaysia, priced at an attractive RM100,999.20 (on the road without insurance).

According to Isuzu, only 28 per cent of the pick-up truck users in Malaysia use the 4X4 function in their vehicle, giving the 4X2 introduction more sense.

Moreover, less driving axle means less moving components which translates to lower maintenance and ownership costs.

"In these challenging times, the new D-Max Auto Plus 4x2 1.9L brings a new level of relief by offering affordability and capability in a well-appointed and stylish package," said Isuzu Malaysia chief operating officer Kenkichi Sogo.

With the front transfer case and differential dropped, the new Isuzu D-Max 4X2 weighs at just 1,830kg, which is 85kg less than the 4X4 version.

The rear-wheel drive D-Max is propelled by the RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre diesel engine that makes 150PS at 3,600rpm and 350Nm of torque from 1,800 to 2,600rpm.

Gearbox is the similar six-speed automatic found on the other D-Max variants.

The new pickup truck is built on Isuzu Dynamic Drive Platform and suspended by a pair of double-wishbone up front and 3-leaf semi elliptical spring at the rear.

On the exterior, the new D-Max gets a new matte grey front grille, flanked by Bi-LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, front fog lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, side steps, along with "4X2 Auto Plus" decals on the sides.

Convenience features include a reversing camera and rear parking sensors that are projected to the 7-inch multimedia screen together with obstacle distance graphic.

The D-Max comes in five exterior colours; Splash White Solid, Mercury Silver Metallic, Onyx Black Mica, Sapphire Blue Mica and Valencia Orange Metallic.

The new D-Max comes with fabric seats with six-way adjustments for the driver's side, while the infotainment system supports all the latest connectivity including USB, Bluetooth, MirrorLink, Miracast, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Other amenities include e-LUMAX instrument panel, a 12-volt 120W socket, USB slot, and rear air-con vents.

While the Isuzu D-Max 4X2 has less propelling wheels, it is fitted with an abundance of safety features, namely ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, ESC, Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, and Brake Override System, enabling the truck to be certified with a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating.

Isuzu Malaysia has begun collecting orders for the new D-Max and deliveries should begin early November.
