KUALA LUMPUR: Singapore's low-cost carrier Scoot has announced that it will be launching daily flight from the country to Subang Airport from Sept 1.

The news confirmed Business Times' report that Scoot would be one of the two foreign airlines flying out of Subang Airport once the narrowbody aircraft operations resumed at the airport.

Scoot has started selling the flight tickets from Singapore to Subang from today on its website, mobile app and progressively through other channels.

Airfares from Subang to Singapore starts from RM108 one-way. The budget carrier will be operating its Airbus A320 on the route.

Scoot will continue flying to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 as well as Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Kuching, Langkawi, Miri, Penang and Sibu.

"With the addition of Subang, Scoot's route network will increase to 70 destinations," Scoot said in a statement, adding that by it will operate 110 weekly flights to Malaysia by September 2024.

The other foreign carrier that will be flying out of Subang Airport is Indonesia's PT TransNusa Aviation Mandiri (TransNusa).

The Indonesian carrier was the first airline that started selling flight tickets from Subang to Jakarta last week.

Other airlines that have confirmed flying out of Subang include FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd (Firefly), Batik Air Malaysia Sdn Bhd and AirAsia Malaysia, a unit of AirAsia Aviation Group (AAG).

AAG group chief executive officer Bo Lingam told Business Times last week that the airline will start selling tickets from Subang to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu from 23 July.

AirAsia will also operate the A320 out of Subang Airport.

To date, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has not officially announced the start date of the narrowbody aircraft operations out of Subang Airport.

The airport operator said last week that it is currently conducting testing and commissioning works at the airport although the company did confirmed that single-aisle aircraft operations will resume in August 2024.

The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) said a total of six airlines – four Malaysian and two foreign – had received approval to operate interim narrowbody aircraft services within four years.

"AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Firefly, SKS Airways Sdn Bhd and two foreign airlines have successfully received approvals for their slots to operate narrowbody aircraft out of Subang Airport during this interim period," Mavcom said.

The interim period will be from August 2024 until 2028.
