Datuk Akbar Moidunny has been elected as the new president of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) at its council meeting on Tuesday, succeeding Simon Yeoh.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Akbar Moidunny has been elected as the new president of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) at its council meeting on Tuesday, succeeding Simon Yeoh. 

In a statement yesterday, chief executive officer Justin J Anthony announced the appointment of Dipak Kaur as deputy president and Dr. Nandita Choudhury as vice-president.

"During the council meeting, Datuk Akbar Moidunny shared his leadership vision, emphasising MAICSA's commitment to propelling the role of chartered secretaries and governance professionals. 

"His action plan includes driving MAICSA forward by enhancing professional development and education, promoting good governance and ethical practices, strengthening member engagement and support," MAICSA said. 

Akbar is group chairman and CEO of MINC Group since 1986, having led the company to provide corporate secretarial and governance consultancy services to more than 1,000 companies. 

With over 37 years of professional experience, Akbar has been involved in various aspects of secretarial assignments. 

This included consultancy, restructuring and due diligence for both multinational and local corporations.  

He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Management and the disciplinary committee of the Bar Council Malaysia.

MAICSA also saw some other changes with the new lineup for the term 2024. 

The lineup includes Associate Professor Noorbijan Abu Bakar as the honorary secretary, Lee Mi Ryoung as the honorary treasurer, Simon Yeoh as the immediate past president and Datuk Suseela Menon as the past president. 

MAICSA also announced that Suseela had been elected as MAICSA's representative to the Chartered Governance Institute UK. 

The other council members are Samantha Tai and Ivy Chin. 

Additionally, it welcomed new council members, Dr. Mazlan Ahmad and Maheswari Kanniah, with Intan Nabilaa Idrus co-opted as a council member.
