KUALA LUMPUR: PEOPLElogy Group aims to train up to 10 million digital talents in Southeast Asia in five to 10 years. 

Chief executive officer Cally Yau said by 2025, the region is expected to require 97 million talents to meet the growing demand for digital jobs.

She said the figure of 97 million is very large, and the company plans to do it in stages, training the 10 million talents in acquiring the key skills needed, especially in the digital field.

"To achieve this number, we cannot follow traditional methods. So in our ecosystem, we have three main pillars: discovery, development, and digitalisation.

"Therefore, we use digital aspects to grow the community. For example, we have our own learning application like Netflix but for education, which is Skillsture, a summary of future skills.

"Within a year, we managed to acquire 10,000 customers from Southeast Asia who can watch videos every day. So with the help of this technology, it will help us train 10 million talents within the next 10 years," she noted. 

Meanwhile, Yau said the digital skills gap is a significant challenge for businesses across Southeast Asia, with more than 60 per cent reporting a large gap that hinders their digital transformation efforts.

In Malaysia, she said, nearly 70 per cent of companies struggle with a lack of digital skills, with 80 per cent stating that the lack of digital talent is a major obstacle.

With projections showing that more than 85 million jobs worldwide may be taken over by automation by 2025, the urgent need for lifelong learning and skill development is critical.
