SEPANG: Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook says his ministry is closely monitoring the progress of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) aerotrain replacement project, to ensure timely completion by end of this year.

"The service, as mentioned, has already been suspended. The project is ongoing right now. "The contract has been renegotiated, and a consortium which we undertake this project has been formed, and we are monitoring the progress, and we want to complete the project. "Our target is to complete the project by the end of this year," he told the reporters during the signing ceremony between MAHB and the government here today. On Jan 17, MAHB announced that Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd wasreappointed as a contractor for the KLIA aerotrain replacement project with IJM Construction Sdn Bhd as a joint venture partner in consortium with Alstom Transport Systems (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

Under this new agreement, the companies will deliver three new trains and two lines by the first quarter of 2025 (1Q25).  Alstom, the new aerotrain's original equipment manufacturer (OEM), will serve as the project coordination lead and be responsible for the coordination works to recommence the project.

Malaysia Airports' acting group chief executive officer Mohamed Rastam Shahrom said the decision to deliver three trains and complete both lines simultaneously allows for optimal replacement works, to achieve the project completion date as originally planned.
