KUALA LUMPUR: Global provider of engineered transport, heavy lifting, and crane rentals, Sarens will be instrumental in advancing the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) project, which will connect Johor Bharu and Singapore.

Sarens has been appointed to take part in the development of the infrastructure required for the rail project on behalf of the construction company Trans Elite Group.

It said in a statement that the company will be responsible for hoisting 25 beams that range in weight from 26.8 to 181.6 tonnes.

The engineering team of the company moved a 750-tonne LR 1750 SDBW configuration crane unit with a 77-meter main boom from Lukut in Port Dickson to the job site in order to lift the beams.

After reaching the desired position, the lift swivels to place each beam sideways on the bridge pillar.

According to Sarens, the crane assembly encountered a number of difficulties, including a substantial space restriction due to the nearby railroad tracks.

The company added that another difficulty is that they will only have two months to finish all of their assignments.

It is anticipated that this RTS Link will be completed by the end of 2025 and operational in 2026. It will offer a 4-kilometer commuter light rail network with two stations, one in Woodlands, Singapore, and the other in Bukit Chegar, Johor Bahru.

Since it's an international link, the Immigration, Customs, and Quarantine departments of both Singapore and Malaysia will share a facility at each station. This will eliminate the need for users to make additional stops at the arrival station, as they can complete the required immigration formalities to and from both countries at the departure station.

With the RTS Link, road traffic on the Johor embankment, which currently carries more than 350,000 vehicles daily, will be reduced, as more than 10,000 passengers per hour can travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore in just six minutes.

The project will save passengers' time and improve the surrounding environment. It will also create 1,500 new jobs in the area, as well as new job opportunities for train maintenance at the Wadi Hana Depot, where operational and storage facilities for trains will be constructed.
