KUALA LUMPUR: KPMG Malaysia has announced the election of Foong Mun Kong as its incoming managing partner, effective Jan 1, 2025.

He will succeed Datuk Johan Idris, who, on Dec 31, 2024, will conclude his term as managing partner and assume a new position as the firm's non-executive chairman.

Foong has been serving as KPMG's head of audit since 2014.

He started his career at KPMG and has contributed his expertise in various professional practice roles at the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (MASB).

Johan said he was extremely pleased to welcome Foong as his successor.

He said that KPMG and the clients the company serves will benefit from Foong's abilities and leadership.

"This passing of the torch is part of the firm's one-year succession plan to ensure that KPMG remains on solid footing to drive continued business growth in Malaysia," he said.

Foong expressed his gratitude for being chosen to become the next managing partner of KPMG in Malaysia.

He said it is an honour as the company has had a big impact on his career.

"I'm grateful for the trust placed in me by my fellow partners and shall endeavour to build on the strong foundation Johan has put in place by harnessing the full breadth of our multidisciplinary model to deliver sustainable value to our clients," he said.

KPMG noted that Johan's transition to the chairman role is integral to the firm's leadership shift, given his extensive experience on the KPMG ASPAC Board and as a Council Member of KPMG International.
