KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has appointed Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, who was previously deputy chief executive officer (compliance), as the new chief executive officer of LHDN effective Dec 17, 2023.

He replaces Datuk Seri Dr. Mohd Nizom Sairi whose service contract expired on De 16, 2023.

Mohd Nizom, 61 years old, served for 38 years at LHDN and delivered the biggest direct tax collection in history in 2022.

A total of RM175.4 billion was collected, under the direction of Mohd Nizom.   

Incoming CEO Abu Tariq, holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honors (LLB. Hons) from the University of Malaya, started working at LHDN on Mar 15, 1995, with extensive experience in the field of direct taxation including legislation and tax compliance.

Abu Tariq has also held several important positions at LHDN including the position of deputy chief executive officer (policy) and director of the legal department.

Abu Tariq's extensive experience is expected to enable LHDN to achieve its vision of becoming the best tax administrator in line with the government's Malaysia Madani aspirations.
