KUALA LUMPUR: Tesla is finally making deliveries of its Model Y electric sports utility vehicle (e-SUV) to customers in Malaysia.

This comes after its official launch eight months ago with the model making its local debut in July last year.

This was in tandem alongside the company's official entry into the Malaysian market.

As anticipated the Model Y was slated for delivery early this year.

No reason has been given for the lengthy wait time or why deliveries would take place after the Model 3 whose launch took place at a later date.

Tesla's Model 3, which was launched in October the same year, had its deliveries already take place as early as November.

The Model Y is dubbed as the world's best-selling e-SUV and one of the safest cars on the road with perfect five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US.

The completely built-up (CBU) model, priced between RM199,000 and RM288,000, is available in three trims: Model Y (rear-wheel drive), Model Y Long Range and Model Y Performance.

At its best the model can sprint from 0-100kph in 3.7 seconds and has a range of up to 533 km (WLTP) on a single charge.

Highlights of the five-seater e-SUV includes an all-glass roof, autopilot, active safety features and HEPA air filtration system.

Alongside the announcement, the company states it has added six new supercharging stations and eight destination charging stations.

This brings it to a total of 30 superchargers and 37 destination chargers in major cities of Malaysia.

Tesla will continue building more charging infrastructures and expanding charging coverage in Malaysia.
