KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's new vehicles sales grew six per cent to 71,745 units in August this year compared to 67,609 units in the same month last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

The total industry volume (TIV) for the month was 13 per cent higher than July's total of 63,676 units.

Year-to-date, the TIV stood at 501,552 units, which is higher than the 449,289 units in the same period in 2022.

"The growth recorded is attributed to improved supply chain issues, as well as national day promotional campaigns by some car companies," MAA said in a statement today.

The total production of 67,912 units last month was higher than the 66,862 units in the preceding month.

MAA expects the sales volume in September will be similar to August's.

Meanwhile, of the 71,745 units, passenger vehicle sales amounted to 64,633 units compared to 60,725 units in August 2022.

Commercial vehicle sales increased to 7,112 units from 6,884 units previously.
