PUTRAJAYA: The government will be focusing on the services sector including green technology, digital economy and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the upcoming 2023 Budget, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The 2023 Budget is scheduled to be presented on Feb 24.

Anwar said government policy should focus on improving the capacity of the SME sector on the back of its high potential, involving a large number of workers.

"Let's not feel lethargic due to the collapsing economy. Malaysia should not be discouraged by global economic uncertainty but explore new fields such as the green economy and the digital economy.

"Our approach so far has also not focused on SMEs which are the backbone of the national economy," he said in his keynote speech at the 2023 Budget dialogue here today.

Anwar said he was taking a realistic approach to the national budget by taking into account the economic situation as well as political views.

"If there is a need to make changes, we will do it because the mandate given is a mandate to make changes," he added.
