KUALA LUMPUR: HSBC Bank Malaysia has appointed Karel Doshi as its new head of commercial banking (CMB) in Malaysia effective from July.

The bank said Karel would be responsible for one of the leading commercial banking franchises in Malaysia.

"She will be servicing small and medium enterprise (SMEs), mid-markets, large corporates and international subsidiaries," it said.

HSBC Malaysia chief executive officer Omar Siddiq said HSBC had played a key role in the growth and development of Malaysia's economy for more than 130 years and continued to be a strategic growth market for the HSBC Group.

"Karel will lead the commercial banking business in Malaysia and continue to drive our ambition for growth.

"She will also deepen our presence in the local SME and mid-market space and capture the increasing proportion of international trade flows into Malaysia," said Omar.

Doshi joined HSBC in 2007, bringing diverse coverage and advisory experience spanning corporate, commercial and investment banking.
