KUALA LUMPUR: The UMW Group's strong start to 2022 continues in February as both UMW Toyota Motor and associate company Perodua registered improved automotive sales.

The group delivered 23,853 units last month, 10.1 per cent higher than the 21,657 units sold in February 2021, as it continued to ramp-up production to fulfil its encouraging outstanding order book.

UMW Toyota's sales surged 26.8 per cent to 6,432 units from 5,074 units registered a year ago. 

Toyota Vios and Hilux continue to be UMW Toyota's best-selling models in February.

The newly-launched Corolla Cross Hybrid registered encouraging sales as the model moved up to become the third best-selling model last month.

To refresh its model line-up, on Feb 17, UMW Toyota unveiled the new Camry which boasts enhanced performance, improved safety and security that places it in the premium executive car segment.

Perodua registered sales of 17,421 units, 5.1 per cent higher than the 16,583 units registered in February 2021.

Its top-selling models for the month were the recently facelifted Myvi, followed by the Axia and Bezza. 

Perodua targets to sell 247,800 units this year, a 30 per cent increase over the 190,291 units sold in 2021.

UMW Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said UMW Toyota and Perodua would continue to ramp-up production.

The sales tax exemption and the introduction of all-new and facelift models were expected to drive sales in the first half of 2022, he added.
