KUALA LUMPUR: Lotuss Stores Malaysia Sdn Bhd has started the new year with a bang by launching two purely authentic Lotus's stores since taking over from Tesco Malaysia in December 2020.

The opening of the two stores in Pulai Hartamas, Perak and Bandar Puteri Jaya, Kedah marks a new chapter for the retailer which is still on the final leg of rebranding all 62 stores inherited from Tesco.

"The opening of Lotus's Pulai Hartamas and Lotus's Bandar Puteri Jaya is incredibly significant to us because not only does it further underlines our commitment to further expand our presence here in Malaysia, but also because these two stores are true Lotus's stores which do not need to be rebranded," Lotus's Malaysia president Kenneth Chuah said.

"Our Pulai Hartamas store, which follows the smaller superstore format, marks a new direction in our business strategy.

"Our research has shown that our customers are very busy and time-strapped, and they would like to get their grocery shopping done as quickly as possible and in offering smaller stores but with the same amount of offering in availability, range and convenience, we can fulfil that demand."

In living its #KitakanJiran community spirit, the openings of both stores also include the retailer reaching out to the underprivileged communities within the area.

Lotus's Pulai Hartamas, which was launched on January 7, invited 10 lower-income families from the area where they were each given Lotus's vouchers to shop for their grocery needs.

Some of the Pulai Hartamas team also assisted the families who were overwhelmed by the selections as they have never been to a major grocery store before.

Meanwhile, the Lotus's Bandar Puteri Jaya team invited as many as 15 underprivileged pupils from a nearby school, SK Bandar Puteri Jaya to participate during the launch on January 12, 2022.

There, the pupils were given Lotus's vouchers and goodie bags consisting of essential items for them to use in their studies and at home.

The openings of both stores were also celebrated by multiple discounts, contests as well as gifts such as free nasi lemak for the first 100 customers, balloons for children, photo booths and food trucks giving free tasters.
