KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia Sdn Bhd (VPCM), the distributor of Volkswagen vehicles in Malaysia, hopes to continue its growth momentum this year.

Erik Winter, VPCM managing director, said he hoped the company can grow its market share “in a sustainable manner”, driven by improving its dealer network services.

"We are looking forward to a successful year together with our dealer partners and to grow our market share and our sales performance in a sustainable way," Winter said during a media round table session here today.

VCPM sold 7,001 units in 2018, which was 16 per cent higher than 6,536 units sold in 2017.

"The transition from Goods and Services Tax to Sales (GST) and Services Tax (SST) period has boosted the market and VCPM has taken advantage from," said Winter.

The company's market share increased to 1.8 per cent for 2018, from 1.18 per cent in 2017.

"We do believe that the market this year, as to Malaysian Automotive Association is believing, that the market will be stable comparable to 2018," Winter said.

Erik also revealed that Malaysians can expect the new Passat and Arteon to be launched this year.
