KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Dagangan Bhd has targeted to increase non-petrol sales contribution to its overall revenue to 30 per cent over the next two to three years.

PDB managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin said currently petrol sales contributed 90 per cent to the total revenue while non-petrol including retail, the remaining 10 per cent.

Syed Zainal said PDB needed to boost its non-fuel segment with global trends moving towards more renewable energy than conventional fuel.

He said the initiatives to achieve the target included providing more offerings at Petronas petrol stations, increasing the efficiency of station maintenance and creating a comprehensive customer experience.

The group’s partnership with the Common Ground, Malaysia's largest leading co-working space is one such initiative.

The partnership marks the cornerstone of PDB's plan to transform a Petronas station into an innovation hub, which Syed Zainal is hopeful can eventually enhance its non-fuel profit.

"PDB has partnered with the industry's leading platform of Common Ground in transforming the Petronas station of Ampang Lama Ampang Road to the innovation hub, also known as The Place @ Ampang.

"The Place @ Ampang is one of the long-term PDB strategies to rebrand our retail business that focuses on creating innovative services to customers," he told the media after visiting the Common Ground room here today.

He said while it had some exciting ideas, PDB was open to receiving new ones as it looked to encourage the growth of the local startup industry.

“This fits in well with our continuous effort in supporting local SMEs and vendors to be part of our business eco-system. We want to reach out to more, and this is where Common Ground will play a central role in connecting us with the rest of the startup community out there, to further explore and create greater innovations," Syed Zainal added.

PDB is targeting to duplicate similar business ideas by transforming its six other stations in Shah Alam Seksyen 26, Ampang, Solaris, Setiawangsa, Johor Bahru and Langkawi into innovation hubs.
