ROAD users are not happy with the slow construction of a flyover on the Jalan Penampang bypass and Lido area in Penampang, Sabah.

A motorist, known only as Cheng, 41, said motorists have to bear with massive traffic jams, especially during peak hours. He said there were only a few workers at the site, which was probably why the project was taking such a long time to complete.

He said the site was also hazardous to road users, because there were insufficient indicator lights and the roads were uneven.

ACTIONLINE:

A spokesman for the Sabah Public Works Department said the construction involved three junctions — Lido, Penampang bypass and Lintas Square and that it included widening the road to three lanes all the way to the airport.

“The junctions at Lido and Penampang bypass are scheduled for completion by May. The project is expected to be completed in January 2020.

“We urge motorists to observe road signs and be patient for the time being.”

He dismissed suggestions that there was a manpower shortage.

He said the roads were adequately lit by street lights at night.

“As for indicator lights and uneven road surfaces, we will try to improve the situation,” he said.
